Description

A 10mm 90-degree rebar corner is used to create a structurally strong and secure right-angle corner in an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) wall system. It provides the necessary reinforcement for the concrete core, especially at the corners, which are critical load-bearing points. This pre-bent steel bar simplifies the construction process, eliminating the need for difficult miter cuts and ensuring the corner can withstand tension and sheer forces.  

Function of the rebar corner
  • Structural integrity: 
    Concrete is strong under compression but weak in tension. The 10mm rebar, with its 90-degree bend, is installed inside the corner ICF forms to add tensile strength and resist cracking and buckling from loads like wind or seismic activity. 

  • Corner reinforcement: 
    The corner is a critical area where forces concentrate. The bent rebar provides specific reinforcement to handle these stresses, ensuring the corner remains a robust and stable part of the building's structure. 

  • Simplified installation: 
    Using a pre-bent rebar corner piece is significantly faster and easier than trying to bend and place individual pieces of rebar on-site. This speeds up the construction process while maintaining the required structural integrity. 

  • Fastening and finishing: 
    The plastic ties or "webbing" within the ICF system, which the rebar is tied to, also provide multiple fastening areas for drywall or other interior and exterior finishes. 
 
How it works
  • Installation: 
    The 90-degree rebar corner is placed inside the pre-formed ICF corner blocks, which are interlocking blocks made of foam insulation. 

  • Placement: 
    It is positioned in the center of the foam forms, creating a cavity for the concrete. 

  • Pouring: 
    Concrete is then poured into the cavity formed by the foam blocks and the rebar. 

  • Reinforcement: 
    Once the concrete sets, the foam forms remain in place, providing continuous insulation and a solid, reinforced corner.
